The Tinker Arrives

Now itís mid-day and time to eat something.  Sarah and Grandmother are ready to have some bread and cheese, when they heard some noise in the yard: a manís voice, cartwheels crunching on stones, and a loud bray.  Rowdy runs out the door barking and Sarah runs after him.  In the yard there is a little gray donkey pulling a cart.  A man walks beside the cart, with a sack over his shoulder.  Itís the tinker!

The tinker makes his living by traveling from place to place.  In his cart he has tools to sharpen knives and fix things made of tin, like candle molds, sieves, and pails.  Sometimes he has little things like ribbon, needles or pins to sell.
