Mother Goes Visiting

Sarah comes back to the house and sees that Mother is going to visit Mistress Abrams, a neighbor who has been sick.  Mistress Abrams lives about five miles away, so Mother will ride Fancy—that will be quicker than walking.  Sarah holds the bridle while Mother gets on.

“Be good, daughter, and help your Grandmother while I am away,” says Mother.  She is taking some gifts to Mistress Abrams: a wool blanket and a salve made of herbs and beeswax.
