Henry Feeds the Horses

Henry fills the horses’ manger with hay, and remembers how Father and Jonas made the hay last summer.  They cut the tall grass in the meadow with scythes and let it dry in the warm June sun.  Then they loaded the dry grass into the wagon.  The horses pulled the wagon loaded with hay into the barn.  The hay will feed the horses and cattle and sheep all winter, until the grass grows again in the spring.
